i went and ate with a mexican guy named manuel. we ate at a place called The Marinero. manuel is 51 years old and i think may be mildly retarded. he doesnt understand english all that well, but is still taking a test to get his citizenship, that way he can fairly contribute to the mess that is the economy. manuel doesnt really understand spnish all that well either. at the mariner they had terrible food. he thought it was great. i told him about the mexican food place down the street called "el capitan" but he refused to be bother with it. when i explained to him that camarones diabla should taste like actual spices and not like someone poured black pepper and red paint all over some shrimp, he stared at me with the most beautiful brown, blank look. a look that you would think was on the face of some poor haitian when Columbus came ashore.

at any rate, i have been very very busy with work. work is for jerks. even more so for the ssholes that say they like it. its not the actual work youre doing that sucks, its the fact that you have to be there. that you need to stay where youre told. theres something really wrong with being made to stay there. if you work in an office and you want to leave...you cant. you look at the door and it gets real far away like those shots in bad horror films. if you work outside...you look at ....whatever, a fence or a tree line. who knows. but you look at it with the yearning you had for freedom while you rotted in school in early june.

so work has me fucked. i hate it. the best part though is i have a job while everyone else spirals into the abyss that is the economy.

economy...i voted for barack and i regret it horribly. im writing a letter to nader to apologize not voting my heart. barack will fail us, a little less than macain. ....but non the less. ...fail us. watch. check back in four years....if the internet still works.

music consumers are maniacs when it comes to where theyre going to find new music...searching....here, there, spin off bands, new bands via myspace, facebook, whatever. in this new age of immediate music and in turn, immediate shit, its become a mode of constant saturation. its nice at times to just stop searching and enjoy what you have. in the last ten days i have been posting about some new bands with an old sound. its that twang thats coming back to me.

my grandfather used to shoot cats and listen to hank williams on his screened porch, mind you it was played out of a "ghetto blaster" ...really, he shit canned his old record player/piece of furniture for what at the time was a break dancers main weapon. (think ll cool j's Radio) so we would sit there and he would drink miller high life and shoot cats with a pellet gun when they got in his tomatoe plants. oh, and this was los angeles...not greater, but still L.A. in 1984.

uncle tupelo always reminds me of those days, thats why when it becomes tiring finding new music and weeding through a crowd of kids that basically come out of an American apparel meets painted on girl pants machine, i always resort back to them. and when its a favorite playing another favorites music you cant help but kick your feet up and shoot a cat with a pellet gun.

im not sure if its known but this has been my favorite band for awhile now.....it changes quickly, but theyre holding up....whoever they are...they being the different faces of jason molina. he is songs ohia, magnolia electric co. and jason molina...and some other stuff but these are the mainstays. you should like this.

last saturday was full of montreals contribution to music. montreal in pomona, pomona being pomona, but anywhere outside of los angeles seems to be a good spot to see music these days. maybe im old, maybe im not skinny enough, but i cant go to another show and look at people wearing girls pants and an american apparel striped tank top, or h and m....whatever it is. nor can i associate with people who wear sunglasses at night anymore. at any rate, montreals Holy Fuck opened for wolf parade and with a name like that i expected nothing but nonsense. and as i was being nagged for my smoking outside by my wife while swimming in a sea of pants and striped shirts i said "maybe we should go see this Holy Fuck shit". and i could not have been happier. outstanding highs and wallowing lows with fucking crazy sampling and loops to get to the two. great stuff.

wolf parade......wolf parade have a great new album coming by the sound of what they played last weekend. its a sad sad state of affairs when a band has to apologize, or come across apologetic about playing new songs because the attention span of a 16 year old half scenester, half piece of shit cant pay attention to anything but what they have heard on myspace. the reality of it is that wolf parades new album is going to be amazing. dan boeckner did what hes supposed to, krug did as well, hadji played clean and quite well for being in Holy Fuck as well. i was a little disappointed as i thought Jonny and the Moon were opening but dante decarro is fucking great in wolf parade. and i dont know the drummers name. but he was there. wolf parade and whoever should always just skip L.A. and opt for venues with a decent clientel. but at this point, when those lame fucking hats and striped tanks are even in the new Mervyns insert in the paper, i guess theres no way of escaping the slightly cleaner more gay version of sid vicious meets the hamptons.
